This course is designed to educate and empower workers at the Virginia Aquarium to manage incidents that may require Oxygen Administration.
Oxygen - although freely available in the air we breathe - is considered a medication when concentrated and as such is actually a prescribed medication. With this in mind, it is important for Aquarium Staff to recognize the value that Oxygen Administration adds to individuals suffering from illness and injuries which require Oxygen.
In particular, scuba diving is both an essential aspect of Aquarium resource management and one of the more hazardous activities an Aquarium worker encounters.
This course mitigates some of those hazards by educating workers on basic respiratory anatomy, the nature of Oxygen administration and possible injuries that a scuba diver may encounter, and how to safely administer Oxygen to the injured diver.
